Elijah is 18 months old!

...Crazy! Time is just flying by and it is amazing how much more Elijah is talking each day and how much he is learning.  He had his first "real at our home babysitter" today that wasn't a grandparent while I went on an outing with some women in our church.  He's such a big boy now!

As promised, here are a few more pictures from my phone:

Elijah & Pop Pop
Everyone we see with a white beard is "Pop Pop"!

For some reason I think it is the cutest thing to watch Elijah read in the car!

Elijah's feet were dirty the other day, so I gave him a wipe and he started cleaning!

An unusual cuddle session while Elijah was sick last week.  Love it!

Cell Phone Photo Roundup

I just downloaded about 100 photos and videos from my cell phone, so I'll try to get them on here to share over the next few days.  There are some cute pictures and videos that have been stuck in my phone and never even seen by family, so you're in for a treat!  ...That is if you are interested in seeing lots of Elijah!

Battle wounds.  I don't remember how.

Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

>> Thursday, August 12, 2010

For some reason I remember this book as a favorite from my childhood, and I think that if Elijah could give a title to today, it would indeed be "The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day."

Oh, he was pitiful.

Elijah's temperature at 7:00 this morning was 102.4.  At 9:00 with the help of Motrin, it was 100.7.

We got to the doctor's office at 9:40 for our 9:45 appointment to which the receptionist said, "Are you sure your appointment was today?"  Um...yeah.  After a 15 minute waiting room experience in which Elijah decided it was time to poop since he hadn't yesterday (um...yeah), we were summoned back to the nurse, where his temperature was 99.5.

So, as a mom, I look like someone who came in for a "supposed" appointment with a child of a temperature of 99.5.  Needless to say, no one else seemed to be in as much of a rush to help my child as I was.  But two nights of fever and hardly any eaten food or liveliness from my sweet child makes me in a hurry to find out what's wrong.

At this point Elijah and I find ourselves waiting on the doctor for 45 minutes in a room with a very small bag of mismatched puzzle pieces to keep us occupied...and the walls were closing in.  All Elijah could think about were the awesome mobiles and fish tanks that are in the waiting room...on the other side of our closed door.

Poor thing.

After an examination that culminated in nothing to show for the root of Elijah's fever, we were sent home with instructions that a urine sample would be needed (via catheterization) if his temperature had not gone down by 1:00 (when the Motrin would be out of his system).  I dreaded Elijah waking up from his nap with a fever, but he was burning up at 4:00 when he woke.

So back to the same doctor's office that earlier in the morning I had seen transform before Elijah's eyes from the once-revered place straight into a place that he loathed.  (I mean, I think that's exactly what Elijah would say if he could!)

This time, at least Daddy was with us to help with keeping Elijah occupied.  But nothing was working.  I'm pretty sure definition #2 of the word "more" in Elijah's brain could be exemplified best by the sentence, "There must be something more (different) that I could be doing right now."  Because I'm pretty sure when he would say "More Doctor" it did not literally mean that he wanted to see more of the doctor!

Pitiful.

In a quick recap, the cauterization was awful!  Elijah screamed, moaned, and whined "Mommy" innumerable times and we were both crying by the end.  Terrible.  Makes me contemplate potty training him tomorrow.  Horrible.  But, the results were negative, so now we had to go on to the next step: blood work.

No good.

Especially since we had promised Elijah ice cream earlier in the doctor's office when we were done.  My child may be a lot of things, but he is not forgetful.  So a trip to the hospital it was.  Again, for negative results.  I'm glad all the results were good, but what terrible ways to have to find out!

The unexpected highlight of the day was getting to watch a helicopter take off right by where we had parked. On any other day, Elijah would have been ecstatic, but I don't think he could muster up enough energy to be excited.

We headed to Sonic for some ice cream (for his dinner) and he didn't even want to finish that.  He went to bed with a 104.7 temperature and parents praying for a speedy recovery.

It truly was a Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, which makes me SO thankful for an overall healthy child.  For Elijah's first real temperature, this was a lot for his Mommy to take in!

My poor baby!

>> Wednesday, August 11, 2010

Elijah woke up twice last night screaming. When I went in to get him, he was burning up! Fortunately, he was able to get back to sleep and actually slept in this morning, but he still had a fever throughout the day. At it's highest, his temperature was 102.something and he hardly wanted to eat today.

To be as hot as he was, he really was a trooper. After I FINALLY got in touch with a nurse, I went out to get some children's Motrin at the pharmacy just around the corner.

I asked a lady from my church who works in the pharmacy to help me find the medicine. As we were talking, Elijah kept pointing to me and saying "Mama". It was hilarious. As if he was defining who I was and making sure everyone knew about it. He did the same thing when we were checking out.

I kind of liked being "claimed" as we walked around! Or maybe Elijah just wanted to make it clear that he belonged to me and no one should touch him. I guess he already knows he wants his mama when he's sick.

Even when Elijah was not feeling well, he still managed to crack me up! Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day for him.

Day Trip to Greensboro

>> Friday, August 6, 2010

I have been dying to go to the Greensboro Children's Museum since we discovered it online a few weeks ago. We finally went this morning to let Elijah play!

It was pretty fun and great to see everything, but I think we did take Elijah a little prematurely. Even so, he had a great time. It was just funny for me to watch him gravitate toward what he knows. In the toddler area, Elijah just wanted to play with the blocks (which is his love in life right now) even though there were tons of awesome things to climb on and see.

He did decide to get up and test out some things after he watched a girl jump like crazy on this...

He probably would have just stayed there all day, playing with blocks, even though there was an airplane, a train, and a firetruck to explore.  We had to practically drag him away so we could help him experience the other stuff.  And when we did...

He still played with the "kid size" firetruck...

when the real truck was just a few steps away!

He still stood by the table with the trains...

...taking forever to notice the big train right beside him!

...But he was wiped out after less than 2 hours.  It really was fun to watch him play and I look forward to going back when Elijah's a little older.

Curious Elijah

>> Thursday, August 5, 2010

When Elijah woke up from his nap the other day I let him hang out for a while before I went back to get him.  I was sitting in the living room and I kept hearing birds, but just assumed they were outside.  As I walked toward Elijah's room, the birds just got louder.  Then I realized what had happened...my curious boy just can't leave things on the shelf any more....

Walkie Talkie!

>> Tuesday, August 3, 2010

...That's all our boy does!  Well, he does yell and run as well.  Basically, he's just non-stop.  But I love it!

I can't believe Elijah is almost 1 1/2 years old.  It's really just flown by.

He totally threw us for a loop last night when Justin was reading and he counted by himself to 8!  Usually he just points and says, "1, 2, 1, 2."  But last night it was all the way to 8!

Another funny thing he's caught on to is saying, "Honey."  When Justin leaves every morning I say, "Bye, Honey" and one morning Elijah copied me.  Now he just randomly calls Justin and I honey.  Kind of weird, but funny!
